On Saturday, February 8, 2025, the new exhibition, Giants of the Ice Age, will be unveiled at Heureka, the Finnish Science Center. The exhibition will take visitors back in time some 14,000 years to the end of the last Ice Age. At the time, large mammals, such as woolly mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses and saber-toothed cats ruled the world, with humans living side by side with them. 14,000 years ago, modern humans had already spread to every continent except the Antarctic.

The exhibition will allow visitors to come face-to-face with animals from the Ice Age in the form of life-sized robots and to learn about Ice Age nature from four different geographical areas. This multisensory experience lets visitors imagine what the last Ice Age looked like in Finland, Europe and Eurasia, as well as in North and South America, and to meet the animals that lived in different parts of the world.

Heureka’s exhibition Our Journey in Spacewill remain on display until January 11, 2026. The exhibition reminds us that Earth is our best spaceship – let’s take care of it! The exhibition’s partners include the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland, Linde Gas Ab and the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK).

Heureka, the Finnish science center, offers its visitors temporary exhibitions and public presentations throughout the year. Heureka is located in Tikkurila, Vantaa, near the train station.

Membership benefit

Members of the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland receive a 50% discount on a regular-priced adult admission ticket to Heureka (normally EUR 26). You can redeem your benefit at the ticket office by showing your membership card on the ILRY Mobiili app. The benefit is personal.

Build your own nerdy derby car

One of Heureka’s most popular attractions is a building site for miniature derby cars. This task requires science, technique, and testing – and a tad of engineering spirit. This site contains a wooden track where you can test the features of your car and time the car on the track – and above all, try to get your car through the track in one piece. At the nerdy derby car site, you can also meet the Union’s robot friend IN-551.
