Doctoral training for universities of applied sciences

The Union of Professional Engineers in Finland has announced the launch of work-life-oriented doctoral training at universities of applied sciences. The idea behind the opening is to meet the needs of companies, individuals and universities of applied sciences.

Working life-oriented doctoral training would offer solutions to many challenges in Finland, complement the Finnish higher education system and bring the education path of universities of applied sciences closer to European counterparts.

The main emphasis of the doctoral training at universities of applied sciences would be on the needs of companies and on working life-oriented implementation. PhD training would give universities of applied sciences the opportunity to develop their own RDI activities to become even stronger.

This is a new, evolving form of training

There has already been talk about doctoral training at universities of applied sciences, but especially due to European developments, it has come up in a new way lately. Work-life-oriented vocational doctoral training has been introduced in many European countries. Finnish universities of applied sciences are also starting doctoral training with European partners. We can find the most suitable model for Finnish education in our country. The aim of the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland is to discuss the topic in the coming years and develop the idea into a feasible form.
